Its chance to leave the frock gatherings and two-minute noodles behind and put your degree to use in reality. One thing you have to recollect is that around the nation numerous youthful hopefuls simply such as yourself are graduating simultaneously with comparative instruction and experience, all competing for indistinguishable employments from you. 5 Templates For a Successful Text Recruiting Program - Workology
5 Templates For a Successful Text Recruiting Program - Workology Types of Text Messaging Recruiting When it comes to text messaging, Ive never been more all in. Its the new candidate engagement tool and it drives results you really wont believe. Remember 2009 when LinkedIn Recruiter was shiny and new like a fresh minted quarter? Do you remember how you were blown away by the responses from candidates and the quality of job seekers you found? Texting is the new LinkedIn Recruiter, only better, because there is no middle man. We talk directly to the candidate. In the United States, texting remains the premier form of communciation in terms of offering a 99% read rate. Email, push notifications and even LinkedIn InMails cant guarantee these type of numbers or percentages. Text messaging can be a game changer for your talent acquisition efforts. It is up to us, as recruiters, however, to choose our candidate engagement and messaging choices wisely. Hopefully, weve learned our lessons from LinkedIn. Engagement is at what some believe is at an all time low. Recently, LinkedIns recruiting team shared their InMail response rates have been lagging at 30%. This same blog article on the Talent Solutions Blog discusses how the new LinkedIn Recruiter platform which recently relaunched has increased their InMail response rates from 30-85%. LinkedIns InMail response rate is impressive, but they are LinkedIn so the expectation is that they should be the best at their own technology. Whether its LinkedIn InMails or other forms of recruiter to candidate communication, we can and do absolutely over-message and over-engage candidates. Candidate engagement not a numbers game. This is where I believe recruiting is truly different than sales. Its a game of quality touches and engagements with qualified job seekers. You dont just smile and dial or InMail and end. If we dont become more selective with the number of messages we send to job seekers, text messaging will no longer be effective in engagement (similar to InMails) and will also lead to angry online reviews and other word of mouth that damages that employment brand youve been working so hard to create and maintain. Types of Text Messaging Recruiting If you are using text messaging purely for the purposes of candidate engagement and communciation, there are a number of ways to reach out to the candidate directly. This direct engagement and communication strategy is different than using a shortcode to build a mailing or customer list via text. This text messaging strategy can absolutely be successful. However, its not what this blog is about. Im not asking you to ask your candidates to text JOBS to 12345. Recruiters will be sending specific, targeted and customized text messages to candidates and job seekers. Yes, you can use free text messaging technology like Google Voice and Viber. However, these dont offer the reporting functions that can really help establish the ROI investment and results data that are in stark contrast to other current technologies you might be leveraging. A number of companies like TextUs and TextRecruit exist that offer paid services for managing, monitoring, analytics and reporting of your text recruit ing done by your talent acquisition teams. #1 The Cold Reachout You can use text messaging to text directly to candidates you dont have a relationship with. Its quick and easy to determine their interest in a role and most importantly determine if they are an active candidate who is interested in learning more. This is where further qualifying in the form of a phone call can help expedite your efforts. In many cases the response is immediate, improving your time to fill and lower recruiting costs per candidate. #2 The Follow Up Candidates, regardless of whether their role, experience level or candidate quality, need to to know where they stand in the recruiting process. Recruiting is a mix of a long and short game. Going back to employment branding and the candidate experience, the text message can be a great way to give a candidate a quick status update or follow up on where they are in the hiring process without having to answer their phone calls or send an email that probably wont be seen. #3 Interview Confirmation While candidates have the best intentions, most dont go to such lengths to include physical addresses including office numbers at their fingertips. Not every person is like me and makes sure to include notes in calendar and meeting requests. Use text messaging to make it easy for candidates. Confirm their interview 24 hours before the scheduled time via text. Include the address of the interview location including suite or office number so they can easily put it into their Google or Apple maps. #4 Re-establishing Contact Unfortunately, most applicant tracking systems arent built like a candidate relationship manager, or CRM tool, allowing recruiters to source talent in their own databases and leave notes for the recruiter themselves or others, like one would do in a traditional customer relationship manager technology like SalesForce. Text messaging services within a CRM can make it easier for recruiters to stay engaged with candidates or re-establish contact with a candidate who interviewed or applied for roles previously but wasnt offered the job. Whether you use a CRM or not, text messaging is a quick way to engage a candidate who youve had a previous relationship with; one that lets you customize the message for that truly special touch. #5 Other Communication Using text messaging to push candidates through the hiring process, including on boarding, employment testing or assessments, is a great way to gently remind them to complete a task so that we, as recruiting leaders, can push through the hiring process. Companies like ATT use text messaging as a way to do just that. Texting isnt their only source of communication. They use texting as a way to follow up on conversations with many of these text messages being automated especially in those hard to fill roles like STEM or physicians where high quality candidates are in demand with the competition. However you are using text messaging in engaging your candidates, its important to provide message templates and resources for your recruiting team to set them up for success. These 5 templates can get you started. Talk to them about the importance of personalization and customization and what response rate success looks like. Share your successes and failures. Were all learning how to engage on this medium. Most importantly, set your expectations on how you expect your recruiters to reach out to candidates. Text messaging is immediate, effective and is hard to ignore. Together we can help change the opinion and stereotypes of recruiters in how they interact with our candidates.

Sniffing Out Danger
Tracking Down Danger Tracking Down Danger Tracking Down Danger Both the central government and the private part are continually searching for better, more secure approaches to examine risky or testing territory, or to search for shrouded explosives. One zone that specialists and researchers go to for motivation is the profoundly evolved feeling of smell in creatures. As of now, the canine olfactory framework is the cutting edge detecting framework for some designing applications, including country security and clinical conclusion. Be that as it may, it takes extensive time and assets to prepare and condition these creatures, and field sending can be testing. Presently, a group of scientists at Washington University in St. Louis has gone to creepy crawlies to build up a progressively delicate location framework, explicitly, beetles. Baranidharan Raman, partner teacher of biomedical building, is working with the Office of Naval Research (ONR), Arlington, VA, to utilize the profoundly delicate insect olfactory framework as the reason for building up a bio-half and half nose. Raman has been considering the creepy crawly feeling of smell for longer than 10 years. The feeling of smell, he notes, being a crude sense, is exceptionally rationed across various species. There are striking similaritiesboth anatomical and functionalbetween creepy crawlies and other higher species. It is additionally probably the hardest framework to repeat. In the event that you ever need to humble a specialist, ask him/her to assemble an electronic nose that has indistinguishable capacities from the creepy crawlies, says Raman. This is one of the primary activities that I have been chipping away at since my alumni understudy days, and it is a lowering encounter without a doubt. A little chip associates with the mind of the grasshopper. Picture: Washington University Examination Approach Raman has been concentrating how tactile signs are gotten and handled in the moderately straightforward cerebrums of beetles. He and his group found that smells brief unique neural movement in the mind that permit the grasshopper to accurately recognize a specific scent, even with different scents present. Beetles prepared to perceive certain smells can do so in any event, when the prepared smell was introduced in complex circumstances, for example, covering with different aromas or in various foundation conditions. We want to exploit an organic arrangement, Raman says. Indeed, even best in class scaled down synthetic detecting gadgets have a bunch of sensors. Then again, on the off chance that you take a gander at the bug recieving wire, where their concoction sensors are situated, there are a few countless sensors, and an assortment of types. To change over beetles into biorobotic compound detecting machines, three coordinated parts are required: A negligibly obtrusive surgery to embed varieties of terminals into the creepy crawly mind (especially an area called antennal flap, which is one hand-off downstream to the tangible neurons on their recieving wire). This permits the exploration group to interface with the grasshoppers refined olfactory framework and read out signs for odorants in their condition. A low-weight knapsack to which the anode clusters are associated. This will permit us to screen, log, and transmit neural information in an online manner, says Raman. Moreover, we will build up a calculation that deciphers neural action to decide whether an objective substance is available or not. A plasmonic tattoo made of biocompatible silk applied to the beetles wings will create gentle warmth and help steer grasshoppers toward specific areas by remote control. The tattoo will be studded with nanorods to quickly change over light at a particular frequency to warm. It will likewise be utilized for gathering tests from the area of intrigue, which would then be able to be dissected by analysts utilizing progressively customary techniques to decide compound organization. Potential There is a developing requirement for more secure, financially savvy, non-intrusive concoction sensors for biomedical and country security applications. Raman completely hopes to create and exhibit a proof-of-idea, cross breed grasshopper based, compound detecting approach for unstable discovery. He keeps on being amazed and intrigued by the rich, yet complex, approaches nature uses to manage the numerous useful difficulties in smelling. Consider the smell of a chocolate chip treat, he says. It is a similar whether you smell it in the café or basic food item shop [different foundation odorants], regardless of whether you smell it in winter or summer [different encompassing temperatures], on a stormy day or on a bright day [humidity is an executioner for synthetic sensors], or a blustery day or not really breezy day [the worldly crest structure will change]. Every one of these undertakings is in no way, shape or form a simple accomplishment of building, Raman includes. However, this is settled effectively by the initial scarcely any neural circuits in the creepy crawly olfactory framework. Most building issues have just been experienced and settled by science, in spite of the fact that, to be reasonable, science has a lead of a couple million years over us. Imprint Crawford is an autonomous essayist. For Further Discussion On the off chance that you ever need to humble a designer, ask him/her to assemble an electronic nose that has indistinguishable capacities from the insects.Prof. Baranidharan Raman, Washington University

Resume Writers Digest Ugh! Tax Day 2008
Resume Writers' Digest Ugh! Tax Day 2008 It's no secret that April 15 isn't my favorite day of the year. Not far behind it are Jan. 15, June 15, and Sept. 15 -- the dates that estimated taxes are due.In talking with lots of other self-employed resume writers, they feel the same. There's just something about writing a hefty check to the IRS (and likely, your state department of revenue) four times a year (quarterly estimated tax payments) that's depressing. At the gas station today, the clerk's sister came in bearing the clerk's finished tax return. She was getting a $700 refund. I think the last time I got a refund (at least one that I didn't have to apply to next year's taxes) was 1995 (the year before I started my business). A friend of mine is used to getting a $5,000 annual refund (he and his wife have a bunch of kids, which = tax deductions). Last year, he became self-employed for the first time. This year, he had to write a small check to the IRS. That's painful ...Every year, probably like you, on April 15, I vow to:1 ) Make more money next year (yes, I make this resolution on New Year's too)2) Pay less in taxes by being smart with my deductions and contributions (for example, to my retirement account). We'll see how it goes this year. But I got a head start by taking a look at this article about 2008 tax issues. I'll let you know if I come across any other good information throughout the year -- or feel free to post a comment on this thread with your suggestions.
